Olympic Corruption – Is Russian Clean Up on Track?

September 22, 2010 – According to an article on “The Voice of Russia” news site, The Committee of Inquiries of the Russian Prosecutor’s Office has filed two law suits alleging embezzlement during the preparation for the Olympic Games in Vancouver. The financial abuse was discovered when President Dmitry Medvedev ordered investigation into the efficiency of the Russian team’s spending budget after the country’s disappointing showing in Vancouver. Athletes also drew attention to the fact that the team did not bring enough doctors, yet there were many relatives and friends of sports officials who stayed in expensive apartments on the Russian team’s bill. According to “The Voice of Russia”, the country’s government has pledged to make spending for the 2014 Games in Sochi as transparent as possible and to “restore the sporting character of the Olympic movement.” Read the full article here.
