Opening US Team Sprints To Norway

November 15, 2004 – Norway won both ends of the cross-country team (i.e.,
two-skier) sprint relay Sunday to conclude the opening World Cup weekend
along the Rhine River. Marit Bjoergen, who won Saturday’s first women’s
sprint, and Hilde Pedersen teamed to defeat Germany’s Manuela Henkel and
Evi Sachenbacher by 4.8 seconds in the women’s 6×800-meter race (each
skier going three loops) while Haavard Bjerkeli and Tor Arne Hetland edged
Germany’s Tobias Angerer and Axel Teichmann by 2.4 seconds in the men’s
team 6×1.5K sprint. No U.S. skiers raced.
