April 22, 2010 – The spring Coordination Group meeting for the

was held immediately following the World Broadcasters Meeting by the host broadcaster NRK on Thursday and Friday 15th-16th April. Following the successful FIS Nordic World Cup events in March that also served as the main test events for next season’s championships, much of the meeting was focused on reviewing the various lessons learned and setting the main priorities for implementing any changes as well as defining the final detailed plans for the Championships scheduled to take place in little more than 300 days. Major items to be finalized in the next few weeks are the detailed competition schedule with starting times which is expected to be confirmed by the FIS Council in its next meeting at the FIS Congress 2010.

The City of Oslo presented the updated construction schedule for Holmenkollen and reported on extremely positive feedback to the magnificent new facility, from the public and the media that visited the FIS World Cups. VisitOslo described their plans to market and promote the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships Oslo 2011 as the main focus of the city’s plans in the coming months towards next February.

The spring Coordination Group was also the first meeting in Oslo for John Aalberg, Nordic Director at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games, who has now joined the Oslo 2011 organizing committee as Sports Director, bringing extensive organizational experience as Nordic Director for the Organizing Committee from two Olympic Winter Games and as an official at multiple FIS World Ski Championships.

FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis commented: “The progress with the preparations for Oslo 2011 are increasingly impressive. The new Holmenkollen deserves memorable Championships and this is on the way to realization with the professional work we have seen presented by the Organizing Committee as well as the City of Oslo, host broadcaster NRK and VisitOslo.”

The Final Inspection for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships Oslo 2011 will take place on 7th October 2010.
