Polish Star Justyna Kowalczyk Trains on Dachstein

October 10, 2010   (Dachstein, Austria) – Vancouver Olympic champion, Justyna Kowalczyk, traveled to Austria on Thursday to begin another period of preparation for the upcoming season with a training  camp on the Dachstein glacier. “We arrived OK and everything is working fine here. The weather on the glacier is perfect. It’s 18 degrees C during the day. At night temperatures dropped to 4 degrees C and 10cm of fresh snow just fell,” said Alexander Wierietielny, Kowalczyk’s coach in an interview with Polish newspaper sport.pl.

Kowalczyk plans to stay on the glacier with her crew until October 19. Then she’ll head to Maso Corto in South Tirol for the rest of the month. Kowalczyk’s team remains the same except for a new physiotherapist; Wierietielny’s assistant is Rafa B. Wgrzyn; servicemen are Mateusz Nuciak and Estonians Are Mets and Peep Koidu. Kowalczyk says that she’s increased her training by 5% over last year and Polish officials are optimistic about the future. “Her level is better than this time last year. She has improved her technique and has worked on strengthing her hands,” commented Apoloniusz Tajner, president of the Polish Ski Association.
