January 01, 2013 (Val-Mustair, Switzerland) – The celebrations continue for the USA’s Kikkan Randall as she topped the women’s 1.4km FR Qualifications by a whopping 4.8s at the new World Cup venue in Val-Mustair, Switzerland, home of local star Dario Cologna who lives 500m from the venue. And mustache antics have served her teammates well as Jessie Diggins (6th), Holly Brooks (11th) and Liz Stephen (30th) also made the heats. The snow conditions are much better than in Oberhof, Germany with hard-packed snow but it’s a tough course.
Andy Newell (USA) is also fired up placing 8th in the men’s 1.4km FR Qualifications followed by three Canucks Lenny Valjas (13th), Alex Harvey (18th) and revived Devon Kershaw (21st).
