Roller Skiing World Cup Concludes with Double Victory for Sweden

September 20, 2012 – (Sweden) – Sweden’s Marika Sundin and Anders Svanebo claimed the large crystal globes for the overall winners of the FIS Roller Skiing World Cup 2012. The final competitions of the season were held in Toblach (ITA) from 14th-16th September.

The series featured fourteen races in four countries: Croatia, Germany, Greece and Italy. Last weekend, the 6 km classic ladies, 8 km classic men, free technique team sprint and 12 km free ladies and 16 km free men concluded the successful FIS Roller Skiing World Cup 2012 season.

Marika Sundin (21) won the first globe in her career. She built a comfortable gap as she powered to four wins in the course of the season. She collected 980 points and edged out Russia’s Ksenia Konohova (774 points) to second and Elena Rodina (697 pts) to third place, respectively.

Italy’s Simone Paredi did not carry on the winning momentum from last season and failed to claim his fourth consecutive crystal globe in finishing third in the overall standings. Sweden’s Anders Svanebo was the best skier of the season and with 785 points the winner of the FIS Roller Skiing World Cup 2012. Italians swept the podium as Sergio Bonaldi finished second with 635 points ahead of Simone Paredi (528 points).

In the junior category, Lisa Bolzan of Italy topped the podium with 781 points ahead of Elena Lukianova (716 points) and Margarita Tolochko (597).

Russian junior men dominated top three as Anton Budylov led Vadim Andreev and Alexander Gavrilov.
