Russian Takes IBU Youth Women’s Relay – Canada 8th

February 4, 2011 (Nove Mesto, Czech Republic) – On this second last day of competition at Youth/Junior Biathlon World Championships, the Canadian Women’s team of Rose-Marie Cote, Julia Ransom, and Sarah Beaudry placed 8th in the Youth Women’s 3x6Km relay. The American squad of Carly Wynn, Silke Hynes, and Tara Geraghty-Moats were 13th.

No teams shot clean during the race, won by the Russians with Elena Badanina, Viktoriya Perminova, and Ekaterina Zubova. The Ukranian team of Yuliya Bryhynets, Anastasiya Merkushyna, and Iryna Varvynets picked up the silver medal at 1:20 behind, while FranceĀ  Manon Contin, Coline Varcin, and Anais Chevalier of France third at almost 3-min behind the leaders.

The IBU Youth/Junior World Biathlon Championships kicked off on January 27th in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, and will wrap up on Sunday. On the final day of competition, Canadians Audrey Vaillancourt, Yolaine Oddou, and Emma Lunder will team up for the 3x6Km relay and Americans Grace Boutot, Kelly Kjorlien, and Corrine Malcolm will represent the USA in the same event.
