December 6, 2003 – Jeff Whiting is leading a NCCP Level 1 Technical Course on December 13 -14 in Saskatoon. Here are the details: This course is an introduction to both general coaching and to coaching the sport of cross country skiing. It is one of three components that make up the NCCP Level 1 program. This is an entry level course, and there are no prerequisites except enthusiasm and the minimum age requirement of 16 years. This course is intended to give parents and other novice coaches basic information and a feeling of confidence as they begin their role as coach/ski leader. There are no tests or examinations at this level.
The main focus of this course is to teach ski technique skills, ski instruction skills, and the basic principles of coaching. The program is 16 hours, which is significantly short of the training that a beginner coach should have. The NCCP Level 1 Course fee is $50.00.
