Schlierenzauer Takes 2008 FIS Ski Jump Grand Prix

October 5, 2008 (Liberec, Czech Republics) – Gregor Schlierenzauer crowned himself the king of the FIS Ski Jumping Grand Prix 2008. The Austrian won the last competition in Liberec on Saturday October 4, and claimed the top spot in the overall final standing in front of Simon Ammann (Sui) and Michael Uhrmann (Ger). The battle of the two stars Gregor Schlierenzauer and Simon Ammann saw the Austrian as the clear winner. Schlierenzauer, who won five out of ten Summer GP competitions, led by 3.5 points after the first jump with Ammann trailing, and in the end won the competition with 1.5 points over Japanese Daiki Ito in second place. Jumps of 135.5 m and 129.0 m brought Schlierenzauer 274.0 total points. Ito achieved his third podium result after two second places during the competitions at home in Hakuba. The Asian jumper came back from a fifth place after the first round outscoring Martin Koch by 0.2 points and benefiting from the change in the wind conditions.Martin Koch (Aut) repeated his third place from Klingenthal on Friday.

The FIS Ski Jumping Summer Grand Prix 2008 started in Hinterzarten on 27 July. The winner there was Georg Spaeth (Ger). In ten competitions, five athletes from four nations jumped to victories. In the final overall standing, Gregor Schlierenzauer collected 670 points while Simon Ammann had 617 and Michael Uhrmann ended up with 346 points.
