Sean McCabe Memorial and Fundraiser

by skitrax.com
December 22, 2009 – As many readers know, Sean McCabe, a 46-year-old teacher, artist and passionate Nordic skier, passed away on Nov. 7, 2009 after suffering from undifferentiated anaplastic carcinoma of the thyroid. His passing hit the Nordic community hard as McCabe touched so many, and those acquainted with him knew firsthand his passion to reach out and share his gifts as an artist and a teacher with others.

He’s survived by his best friend and wife, Laura, an Olympian and longtime member of the Factory cross-country ski team, and their daughters, Novie, seven, and Dashe, three, his mother and eight siblings, Laura’s parents and four siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews.

As a teacher and an artist, McCabe was blessed with many talents. Honoured with numerous teaching awards, he also combined his vocation in art with his outdoor interests, and opened Sean McCabe Studio to showcase and sell his stunning paintings also available as prints.

His longtime friend Torin Koos, a member of the US Cross-country Ski Team, wrote a four-part Beckie Scott story that features McCabe’s amazing paintings in each issue of SkiTrax this season.

In an effort to support the McCabe family during this difficult period we are encouraging the Nordic community to check out Sean’s amazing portfolio and purchase his paintings or prints – a valuable way to support the McCabe family and share in his legacy that lives on through the countless students, skiers, friends and family he inspired with his passion and energy for life. SkiTrax will include a free one-year subscription with all purchases.
