Silver Star XC Trails Will Open This Weekend!

provided by Glenn Bond

November 7, 2004 – A furious blast of midwinter weather has turned Silver
Star Mountain into a winter wonderland, and the resort is pleased to
announce the opening of its cross country trails this Friday, November 5.
Nordic Manager Glenn Bond exclaims, Mother Nature’s bounty has been
augmented by diligent track preparation by the Silver Star grooming staff.
“Usually in early season, we’re skiing on snowmobile tracks. We’ve had
enough snow to run our Bombardier BR400 grooming machine, which really
creates a top-notch surface,” Bond said. As conditions permit, Silver Star
will be opening more trails as well as its new mountain view cabin,
complete with wood burning stove. Six newly-cleared kilometres of trail
bring the Silver Star trail network up to 60 kilometres of track-set
trails.

It’s a great kickoff to Silver Star’s world famous Month of Nordic
events which will feature numerous Masters camps, waxing clinics, training
camps (watch for Olympic gold medallist Beckie Scott and other members of
Canada’s National Team), and equipment demos that run right from Opening
Day right through until December 17th. Silver Star’s early season
training is renowned around the world. Sixteen Olympic medal winning
athletes trained here prior to the Salt Lake City Olympics. Having hosted
the 1991 World Cup Silver Star looks forward to welcoming teams from all
across Canada, the US and Australia this season. Restaurants and hotels
are now open to host early season Nordic skiers.

With all of the fresh powder and a 70cm mid-mountain base, Silver Star
Mountain’s downhill skiing and snowboarding operation is poised to meet
its November 25th opening day. Check out www.skisilverstar.com for

Nordic Manager, Glenn Bond, and Director of Skiing, Norman Kreutz, heading
out to check out the trails.
