For both Burke and Le Guellec it was a solid improvement over Friday’s 20km individual race as Burke was able to overcome his stomach problems with two misses at the standing stage to finish 1:31.0 behind Svendsen.
“Tim performed really good on the tracks today, I’m impressed how he presented himself despite the stomach problems of the last days”, said US Biathlon Head Coach Per Nilsson.
Le Guellec only missed one shot as he tackled the course with much better form. “It was a lot better today and I felt like I was moving faster every lap,” said Le Guellec, who attributed a more aggressive warm-up to helping put down a better race.
“I likely needed to kick-start the engine a little and now I feel like things are heading in the right direction. This is a really tight field with lots of good shooting. The skis are fast and I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”The USA’s Lowell Bailey finished in 38th place with a clean shooting, also collecting World Cup points.“Normally my skiing shape during the past years was already good in the fall, this year I’m trying a different strategy. So the skiing will get better with more races,” said Bailey. Team mate Russell Currier finished in 80th with 3 misses, Leif Nordgren was 84th with 4 misses and Jeremy Teela, weakened by a stomach parasite and a non-starter on Friday, placed 89th.
Two other Canadian men also hit the start line in Sweden. Calgary’s Nathan Smith was 69th at 28:08.9, while Brendan Green, of Hay River, N.W.T., was 74th (28:28.8).
