Sweden Wins as US Skiers Debut at World Cup Relays in Davos

February 4, 2007 (Davos, Switzerland) – U.S. women finished 11th today behind Sweden in a 4x5K World Cup relay race while the U.S. men’s team was 12th behind Russia in the 4x10K race.

Sweden won in 53:51.6 with the four Americans 11th with a time of 58:15.7. Kikkan Randall (Anchorage, AK) and Liz Stephen (East Montpelier, VT), who made her World Cup debut Saturday, were joined by two others skiing in their first World Cup race: Morgan Arritola (Fairfield, ID) and Taz Mannix (Anchorage, AK).

In the men’s race, Russia led a four-nation sprint to the finish before winning in 1:35.42.6, four-tenths of a second ahead of Italy. The U.S. foursome – Kris Freeman (Andover, NH), Chris Cook (Rhinelander, WI), James Southam (Anchorage, AK) and Andrew Johnson (Greensboro, VT) – was 12th in 1:39.17.1.
