January 17, 2011 – After more promising updates on the Russian doping front the latest news is that a group of top level Russian skiers, including Nicholas Morilov, Alexey Petukhov, Vasily Rochev, Olga Traction and Dmitry Vasiliev did not submit required whereabouts information to the Russian Anti-doping Authority in early January according to the Russia Association of Ski Sports. Under Whereabouts Regulations, athletes are required to submit their whereabouts on a quarterly basis so that doping control officers can locate them.

Failure to submit whereabouts information constitutes a type of violation called a filing failure. Missing a drug test constitutes a second type of whereabouts violation, and any combination of three filing failures/missed tests in an 18-month period may result in an anti-doping violation, and subsequent disqualification of athletes for up to two years.

An investigation is currently underway by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency, RUSADA – more on this story HERE.
