Two Golds for Norway’s Bjoerndalen in Biathlon

February 4, 2007 (Antholz, Italy) – Ole Einar Bjoerndalen of Norway picked up two gold medals and won his eighth world cup event today in Antholz, Italy. The real battle was for second place, one minute and nine seconds back, where Russian Maxim Tchoudov edged out Vincent Defrasne of France. Michal Slesingr of the Czech Republic, who was the surprise second-place winner yesterday, finished fourth today. USA’s Jay Hakkinen was the top North American in 18th.

On Saturday, Feb. 3, Bjoerndalen also won the 10km men’s sprint, 4.8 seconds ahead of Slesingr. Ukranian Andrej Dery, another surprise winner, rounded out Saturday’s podium. Tim Burke (USA) was the top North American in 35th.
