U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing Nationals and NorAm Day 3 Report, Results – Cnossen Tops Again

release by U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing

January 06, 2015 (Midway, UT) – Today Soldier Hollow Resort again played host to the U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing Nationals & NorAm, this time a Short Distance Cross Country competition. The event was run with an international field of sit skiers and standing skiers on course at the same time, which made for an exciting competition. The course was very fast this morning with impeccable grooming setting up a really fun and fast race.

Winning the U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing Nationals for the second time in two days was Dan Cnossen (Team Semper Fi) over teammates Andy Soule (Army) in 2nd, and Aaron Pike (CXC) taking 3rd.

Sini Pyy of Team Finland was the fastest women sit skier on the course again today, distancing herself from newcomer Jataya Taylor (NSCD) who was able to race today after a tough crash took her out of yesterday’s sprint.  Sini is here doing her final preparations for the World Championships set for Cable, WI, January 23-Feb 1st.  Unfortunately the bad luck continued to deplete the women’s sit ski field with local skier Brittany Fisher of the University of Utah TRAILS program crashing off the course early in the race.  While the crash was dramatic, at last report she was doing fine and resolved to get back into her sit ski asap to race again.

The Standing class IPC NorAm competition was well contested again, just this time in a freestyle (skating) completion, but the Canadian athletes once again climbed to the top of the podium.  Emily Weekes took the women’s race, & Andy Lin took the victories over  Kevin Butler (NENSA), and Jason Naval (Canada).

Wednesday will be the final day of completion with the Long Cross Country scheduled for 9:00am on the 2002 Paralympics race courses.
