April 01, 2014 (Scandinavia) – Rumours are flying as seismic shifts in the world economy suggest that Scandinavia may form its own political entity as one country and while no names have been officially announced the current moniker of United Scando Republic is being bandied around.

Traditionally consisting of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland over 20 million people will be affected by the possible union which may include a new currency as well. “We are looking at all options,” said a spokesperson in a recent interview. A new flag is also apparently being designed.

With most of the top Nordic skiers in the world come from Scandinavia pundits are wondering what kind of Super Team would emerge from a powerhouse new Scando country. Officials at FIS were caught off guard when we contacted them for a statement.

“We’re reviewing the options and may have to make adjustments. We have added this to our agenda for the upcoming Congress in Spain and need to have more in-depth discussions. It’s not certain if so-called Super Teams will be the final result or each country will remain as they are with two flags,” commented FIS.

Pundits point out that politically a United Scando Republic favours the new alliance both on the world market and with neighbours like Russia and Europe.

Apparently Norwegian superstar Petter Northug, who’s season ended early this year, is not against the idea but has his mind on other things. “The idea of Super Teams is interesting… but right now I’m thinking about the upcoming poker series.”

We hope you enjoyed this April Fools joke.
