Universal Sports to Broadcast Liberec Nordic Worlds

February 18, 2009 (Los Angeles, CA) – U.S. Olympians Kikkan Randall and Andy Newell lead the cross-country team and recent World Cup winners Billy Demong and Lindsey Van headline the Nordic combined team when Universal Sports presents same-day webcast coverage of the 2009 Nordic World Championships from Liberec, Czech Republic, on Feb. 19, 2009. Universal Sports will offer a daily highlights show starting March 4.

Women’s Ski Jumping: For the first time in history, women will have the opportunity to participate in the sport of ski jumping at the Nordic World Championships in Liberec, Czech Republic. Female ski jumpers have been petitioning for many years for the opportunity to jump in international competitions and were finally granted the right to participate from a decision made by the International Ski Federation in 2006. The first women’s ski jumping coverage will be on demand on UniversalSports.com Feb. 20.

U.S. Team: The 2009 team is considered to be the strongest team that the U.S. has assembled, featuring many Olympics, World Cup champions and frequent top-10 finishers across the various disciplines. The team includes four women ski jumpers who will take part in the historic debut of their participation in the sport at the World Championship level.
