US-Canada Euro Update

December 4, 2008 (Davos, Switzerland) – Here’s a quick head’s up about the US and Canadian skiers racing in Europe through the weekend. On Thursday evening, Canadians Sean Crooks, Phil Widmer, and Perianne Jones along with the USA’s Kikkan Randall will compete in a sprint race in downtown Grenoble, France.

The course is a 600meter loop, done twice for the women. For the men, I’ve heard they’re either doing two or three laps. There is 12,000 Euros in prize money up for grabs. The Norwegians, headlined by Ola Vigen Hattestad, the Finns, some Swedes and all the Central European sprinters will all be there.

Kris Freeman will race Saturday but on Sunday the US will not race the relay as the rest of the team is staying in Davos. The Canadian men will compete with a team of Crooks, Ivan Babikov, Stefan Kuhn and Devon Kershaw – not sure of the order.

Babikov and Sara Renner will be right off the boat. They fly into Geneva Thursday afternoon and both will race Saturday’s individual starts.

Cheers,
Torin
