US National XC Championships Head to Alaska

2009 and 2010 XC Nationals in Anchorage

by skitrax.com

June 24, 2008 (Anchorage, AK) – In 2009 the US Short Distance XC Nationals will return to Anchorage, Alaska for the first time in 15 years. On June 9, the Nordic Ski Association of Anchorage (NSAA) announced they would be hosting the 2009 and 2010 US Nordic Championships, and just like in 1994 when Lillehammer, Norway hosted the Olympic Games – the last time the championships visited Anchorage – the 2010 US XC Nationals will act as the site for the US Olympics Trials for the Vancouver 2010 Games.

Recent upgrades to Anchorage’s Kincaid Park have turned the venue into a world class Nordic site. Over the past few years the trails have been widened and the stadium area revamped. As the saying goes “if you build it, they will come” and come they will. Most recently Kincaid played host to the 2008 Junior Olympics, and will now be busy for the next two years with the US Nordic Championships.
