USA’s Bailey 10-for-10 at Oberhof Biathlon WCup Sprint

January 6, 2008 (Oberhof, Germany) – US Biathlon’s Lowell Bailey had his best shooting day of the season with a perfect score hitting all 10 targets in the Men’s 10km Sprint on Saturday in Oberhof, Germany. The race was won by Tomasz Sikora of Poland who also shot clean to win in 28:13.3 ahead of Ole Einar Bjorndalen of Norway in second with Emil Hegle Svendsen (Nor) in third.

Top North American was 30-year-old Robin Clegg from Ottawa, who finished 40th at 2:06.7 seconds behind the leader. Bailey finished in 46th at 2:20.1 while Jay Hakkinen (Kasilof, AK) was 73rd at 3:39.7 and Jeremy Teela (Anchorage, AK) finished in 76th at 4:10.4 back.

Earlier in the day Tora Berger of Norway won the women’s 7.5km Sprint in 23:58.2, her second victory of the season, over Russian Svetlana Sleptsova in second and Magdalena Neuner (Ger) in third. Canada’s Sandra Keith from Calgary was the top North American in 44th at 2:41.8 while Tracy Barnes (Durango, CO) finished 68th and sister Lanny finished 77th.
