USA’s Lodwick Wins Lillehammer SuperSprint Report, Results, Photos

September 5, 2009 (Lillehammer, Norway) – Todd Lodwick won his second consecutive Lillehammer SuperSprint title in downtown Lillehammer today. 52 athletes started the qualification race in a head to head format. Todd qualified 2nd, Nick Hendrickson 6th, Billy Demong 14th and Bryan Fletcher in the 16th spot.

After the qualification the field was cut to 16, paired in seeds based on qualifying times. Only Todd and Nick made it out of the round of 8. Nick had a difficult matchup against Magnus Moan but was able to beat him in photo finish to advance to the quarter finals.

Billy lost to Petter Tande and Bryan had a tough race against #1 qualifier Jonas Nermoen. Finally, after four head to head sprints, #2 seeded Todd Lodwick outsprinted #1 seed Jonas Nermoen for the victory in front of about 1,500 Norwegian fans.

Capping off a great day, the same 4 guys US boys beat a Norwegian team of Magnus Moan, Petter Tande, Espen Rian, and Mikko Kokslien. Tomorrow we have a normal Nordic Combined competition on the small in Lillehammer and 10km race on the rollerski loops at Sjusoen.

Not only will Billy and Todd be competiting tomorrow with the rest of the US Nordic Combined team, we will have young athletes like Cliff Field, Micahel Ward, and Adam Loomis competitng with the likes of Norwegians of their own age as well as mixing it up with World Cup, World Championship, and Olympic medalists.
