February 6, 2011 (Joulumae, Estonia) – The USA’s Ida Sargent who qualified 14th advanced to the A-Final and finished fifth in the women’s 1km classic sprint final on the first day of competition at the Scadinavian Cup in Joulumae, Estonia. Sargent’s team mates Jennie Bender (21st qualifier) and Rebecca Rorabaugh (15th qualifier) were eliminated in the quarter finals, finishing 13th and 23rd respectively. Estonian Triin Ojaste, who qualified first, nabbed the home turf win ahead of Norwegians Heidi Weng and Mari Eide.
Top men’s qualifier, Norway’s Kent-Ove Clausen, won the men’s 1.6km classic sprint race over Finnish skier Antti Haekaemies. Estonian Vahur Teppan rounded out the podium. No American men advanced beyond the qualification round – Reese Hanneman was 41st and Skyler Davis was 46th while Tad Elliott did not start.
The second day of competition saw the women racing a 10km classic. With her 12th place finish, Sargent nabbed the top North American result again, with team mates Bender, Rorabaugh, and Heather Mooney in 17th, 21st and 22nd place respectively. It was another home turf win for Ojaste, this time over Norway’s Britt Ingunn Nydal, with Finland’s Laura Ahervo rounding out the podium.
The USA’s Hanneman finished 36th in the men’s 15km classic won by Estonian Karel Tammjarv, over Hans Petter Lykkja of Norway. Finland’s Lari Lehtonen picked up third. The USA’s Davis did not start.
