March 10, 2010 (Presque Isle, ME) – New England did not have quite the same sweep as they did at Tuesday’s sprints, but there were several repeats on the podium on Wednesday’s USSA XC Junior Olympic 5km, 10km, and 15km classic events. Corey Stock of New England and Cole Morgan of Intermountain repeated their championship performances. Stock won her race by 13.5 seconds over teammate Heather Mooney, while Morgan barely squeaked out another victory by 0.6 seconds over New England’s Jack Hegman. The J1/OJ girl’s races saw PNSA skier Annie Pokorny winning the  J1 girls by 7.8 seconds over Midwest racer Annie Hart. New England’s Isabelle Caldwell was third.

Kaitlynn Miller of New England claimed her second title and fifth in the OJ event, followed by Intermountain’s Liza Goodwin and Alaska’s Rebecca Konieczny. David Sinclair of New England finished 12.9 seconds behind Alaska’s Scott Patterson. Sinclair used the individual start to his advantage, catching a ride on Alaska’s David Norris, who started 30 seconds behind him. Norris won by 3.3 seconds Originally scheduled as mass starts, today’s distance classic events were changed to individual start races by vote of the jury because of course safety concerns – two Midwest competitors injured their knees on a downhill corner in yesterday’s sprints.
