USST Lake Placid Camp Day 6 – Climb to the Castle!

release by NENSA
October 8, 2009 (Lake Placid, NY) – Tomorrow is the last of camp for NENSA, Sun Valley and CXC groups. USST skiers will stay on for another week. There was definitely some tiredness creeping into the skiers bodies yesterday but overall everyone seems to have handled the workload well. Double sessions on most days, 3 interval sessions, specific and general strength and plenty of distance workouts make for a busy week.

Today was the roller ski race up Whiteface. It was a great field ( I think around 75 skiers including the USST Nordic Combined skiers in town for this weekend’s event) and the conditions were epic! Clearing at the start after a night full of heavy rain, but mid way up the rain and wind rolled in along with fog at the top. Variations in roller ski speeds make it difficult to compare times, however an athlete will know how they felt during the race and if things were clicking or not. New England skiers had a good day overall. Highlights include a 3rd place overall for Ida Sargent (Craftsbury Green Racing Project), and 4th for Hannah Dreissigacker also, CGRP, and both Dartmouth skiers. Patrick O’Brien (Dartmouth), was 8th overall in the very competitive mens field.
