March 1, 2009 (Mora, Sweden) – Local skier Daniel Tynell (Swe) won the men’s 90km Vasaloppet on Sunday in Mora, Sweden, the world’s largest cross-country ski race, round #8 of the FIS Marathon Cup. Tynell took the lead over a group of seven racers at 5km from the finish to win the famous marathon ski race. Sandra Hansson (Swe) won the women’s 90km classic race. The event which started in 1922 had over 46,000 entries to Vasaloppet’s Winter Week.
Marco Cattaneo leads the men’s Marathon Cup series after eight events while Jenny Hansson is the women’s leader.
