August 03, 2011 (Sweden) – With a couple of weeks to go to Vasaloppet summer week 2011, more than 12,000 participants have signed up. More than 8,000 cyclists have registered for CykelVasan and 4,000 runners to Vasastafetten!  “The development of our summer week has far exceeded our expectations,”  says Vasaloppet President, Jonas Bauer. There were nearly 5,000 participants in the three races in the first year back in 2009. Many sport enthusiasts come to the Vasaloppet arena for big outdoor events such as hiking, biking and skiing.

Vasaloppet has attracted over 72,000 participants for both winter and summer. We’ve become the world’s largest organizer of recreational events year round,  add up Jonas Bauer. 2011 edition of the Summer Week comprises three events.

The third edition of CykelVasan will attract twice as many participants as in 2010. 90-kilometer race from Salen to Mora was fully booked as early as March. Approx. 6,000 cyclists, 600 in the competition class will take part in the race. There are still vacant start bibs for shorter races over 45 and 30 km. Over 1000 participants have signed up for the 45-kilometer race so far. It represents an increase of 281 percent compared to last year. And yet it is not too late to join! Sweden’s best companies and clubs challenge each other in a run that follows the classic Vasaloppet course. The start is in Salen and the finish is in Mora. There are ten members in each team who share the entire length. The longest stretch is 15 km and the shortest is 4.4 km. 385 teams have registered for the race with 3,850 runners. There were 74 teams less this time last year. It is still possible to register online your team by Monday, August 15.

The Nordic Walking event naturally finishes Mora. The race is not timed and it is not a contest. It is a nice, healthy, a bit challenging experience of natural beauty. No registration is needed to Nordic walking Vasan.
