February 8, 2008 – The Viessmann FIS World Cup Cross-Country events in Liberec (Cze), scheduled from February 16-17 are confirmed. The Organizing Committee of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 gave the “green light” today for the test events in the newly-built cross-country stadium in Vesec. Due to the lack of snow, the competition program will change from the planned Pursuit races to a free technique distance race with interval start over 10km for ladies and 15km for men. The starting times remain as scheduled.
“We are happy to be able to stage the test events for the World Championships in Liberec. The weather there continues to be mild and the ground is not frozen but the Organizing Committee will make a great effort and bring snow from the surrounding mountains to Vesec. The change in the competition program was necessary due to not having enough snow for more than a 2.5km loop. This loop will also be used for the Nordic Combined competitions,” said FIS Race Director Cross-Country, Jürg Capol.
