February 4, 2007 – Finland’s Virpi Kuitunen won the 10-km women’s individual on Saturday in Davos, Switzerland. Kuitunen, 30, won the race with a time of 24:40.4 over Russia’s Olga Savialova by 11.9 seconds, while Norwegian Marit Bjoergen was third, 17.7 seconds back. Kuitenen was trailing Savialova by almost 14 seconds at the 6.5km mark but then poured on the steam.

Czech Katerina Neumannová missed the third spot on the podium by six tenths of a second.

Kuitenen now has 1,197 points overall in the 2006/07 Viessmann World Cup standings versus 756 for second place Bjoergen, 26, the defending champion. Eight races remain on the schedule for the World Cup title.
