January 19, 2010 – As Olympic teams are named and athletes begin their final preparations for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is also preparing to keep the Games clean. Their goal is simple: ”to make athletes afraid to dope,” and ”to make the life of the dopers miserable,” according to Dr. Christiane Ayotte, director of Canada’s only permanent drug-testing laboratory in Laval, Quebec.
Bill Beacon, of The Canadian Press, interviewed Ayotte about the temporary lab that she and about half of her staff will set up at the Richmond Olympic Oval for the Games in Vancouver and Whistler, B.C. , and the measures they will take to insure that each competition is fair – read more here.
Meanwhile, WADA and drug companies have been working together, identifying potential performance-enhancing drugs that might be misused, and including biological markers in them .
