November 03, 2014 (Whistler, BC) – Good news for ski jumping Canada. After it was announced earlier this year that the Whistler Olympic Park will be a national training center for ski jumping and nordic combined, smaller hills are also built there now.

The new 20 m and 40 m ski jumps will be located next to the Olympic hills of 2010 in order to give kids the chance to start with the sport. In addition there will also be a so-called “Ski-Play-Area” with smaller hills and bumps, that will open early December. The hills shall then be ready for jumping mid January.

A youth ski jumping program for kids aged eight to 14 will also be offered starting late January. According to a report of the “Pique Newsmagazine”, Roger Soane, the president and CEO of Whistler Sports Legacies (WSL), hopes that about 100 kids will attend this program because successful test runs were already carried out last winter. “We sold out within a day of putting it on the web. We built some snow jumps, and the kids just had a blast.”

John Heilig, Manager of Nordic Sport in the Whistler Olympic Park and member of the FIS Ski Jumping Committee, played a major role in the realization of this project as he convinced the Whistler Legacy Society Board of Directors to invest in ski jumping.
