Women’s Nordic Training Group – Strong Presence in Stowe

release by NENSA/Janice Sibilia-Competitive Program Director
November 11, 2007 – Trina Hosmer, whom some of you may know as a very fast ski racer, NENSA member, volunteer and co-coordinator of the very successful NENSA Women’s Day festivities doesn’t stop there. With non stop enthusiasm, Trina runs a training group just for women in Stowe, Vermont.

A training group that caters just to women in and of itself is rare, but to see 25 women show up on a Friday, November 2 at 3:00 pm was incredible! Trina invited me to visit her group last Friday to introduce them to NENSA and help instruct. I gladly accepted, eager to have an opportunity to work with Trina, in a setting as scenic as this. I knew that these women are not racers, but were interested in fitness and enhancing their xc ski experience this winter.

What I did not expect was the large turnout this group produced on a weekly basis (and its growing!) nor the motivation and enthusiasm these women possessed! Trina runs a tight ship as in “there is not a moment to waste!”, and she fits a lot in to the session. And it is very obvious that she really cares about what she is doing.

After a warm up run Trina led the women through a stretching routine while I explained a bit about skate body position. We then took the group through several dry land technique drills that encompassed V1, V2 and V2 alternate . There are not many folks I have met before that are purely recreational who know so well the differences between these three techniques! It quickly became apparent that Trina has done a great job and these women have done their homework. Next, Trina’s plan was a relay- She has a neat concept for a dry land relay which gives the participants a chance to practice V1, V2 and V2 alternate, all while having an informal team atmosphere.

All in all it was a great afternoon and I would not be surprised to see this group continue to grow by Leaps and Bounds!
