XC Ski Nationals Update on Conditions and Start Lists

by Claudia Van Wijk

March 23, 2013 (Whistler, BC) – The weather at WOP (Whistler Olympic Park) was clear and cold yesterday evening and grooming commenced at 6pm until about midnight according to Dirk Van Wijk, chief of course preparation for the 2013 XC Ski  Nationals. Three machines were out on the trails covering both the race course and the recreational trails, that will be open for the weekend. Temperatures are expected to rise to about +3 on Saturday under clear skies.

A total of 30cm of fresh snow fell this past Wednesday, but temperatures went above zero, so the snow has transformed and aged quickly making for fast conditions. A great base of over 2m in the Callaghan Valley will ensure superb ski conditions for quite some time.  Spectating is free for the XC Ski Nationals, so come on out and cheer on your favourite skier, province or team!
