The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) is seeking a talented designer for its Toronto office to play a major role in continuing to strengthen the Canadian Olympic Team brand. Working closely with the Senior Manager, Brand Marketing, in Toronto, ON, the Graphic Designer will play an integral role in the areas of design, including print and electronic media for the Canadian Olympic Committee. This individual will also work very closely with all other departments to support our overall marketing strategy, particularly Marketing Partnerships, Communications, Digital Strategy, Education, Youth and Community Outreach and the Canadian Olympic Foundation. Strong layout and typography skills are essential to success, as is passion for design. Photography, illustration, and animation skills are an asset and a passion for sport is preferred.

Core Responsibilities and Priorities:

• Create innovative design work and solutions that meet our internal design requirements
• Assist with providing graphic design solutions
• Assist the Senior Manager Brand Marketing with the branding of annual COC signature events (Hall of Fame Gala Dinner & Induction Ceremony, Heroes Tour, Olympic Day, Team Send-Off, Welcome Home, Community Outreach Program, Golf Tournaments, etc.)
• Partner with COC departments on graphic design elements including, but not limited to, Communications, Athlete Services, Finance, Operations and Olympic Preparation and Games to ensure the successful delivery of brand initiatives.
• Design templates for all COC departments that will be used internally as well as for select client groups;
• Assist web development with graphic content for online applications for internal and public viewing (i.e. SharePoint and Olympic.ca and all micro sites);
• Liaison with external agencies as required.

Qualifications and Critical Skills:

• Post-secondary training in visual design;
• 3 years’ related experience in an agency or marketing environment (recent college or university graduates with strong internship experience are also encouraged to apply)
• Proficient in the latest editions of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Adobe Acrobat;
• Ability to work in both Mac and PC platforms;
• Video editing and motion graphic capability;
• Ability to constantly stay abreast of emerging graphic trends and developments in software;
• Previous experience working with multiple applications including print, web, signage, advertising and presentations. A portfolio demonstrating work experience is mandatory;
• Excellent interpersonal/communications, analytical and organizational skills;
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment;
• Self-motivated, creative team player;
• Communication and problem solving skills;
• Attention to detail;
• Bilingualism (English/French) an asset

Job Opportunity – Head Nordic Coach, Callaghan Winter Sport Club

June 10, 2013 (Whistler, B.C.) – The Callaghan Winter Sports Club (the “CWSC”) is seeking applications for the role of Head Coach. This is a contract position with a two year renewable term. CWSC is an active full service Nordic ski club based in Squamish, British Columbia. Incorporated in 2008, the club has a long history of organizing and delivering programs geared towards cross-country skiers and biathletes of all ages and performance levels.

The club offers cross-country (X-C) and biathlon programming through seven training groups. Our biathletes primarily train out of Whistler Olympic Park and the Squamish Valley Rod & Gun Club. Approximately sixty biathletes are enrolled in our biathlon programs during the winter season.

Qualifications
• Certified at a minimum of Level 2 in Biathlon from the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) or possess equivalent training
• Certified at a minimum of Intro to community coaching (X-C)
• Experience with a High Performance Cross Country and/or Biathlon program
• Willing to travel on weekends for races (mostly within British Columbia)
• Must have transportation to fulfill the travel duties
• Experience maintaining biathlon rifles
• Fluency in French an asset
• University physical education degree or other sport specialized post secondary degree

Primary Responsibilities
• Provide coaching expertise to all CWSC biathlon and X-C groups
• Implementation of our programs:
o Developing and implementing monthly training plans, reviewing training logs for all development and high performance athletes.
o On snow and dryland coaching which consists of 5 directed sessions per week (Saturday to Wednesday)
• Direction and assignment of the Assistant Coaches
• Race coverage including direction and assignment of the Assistant Coaches
• Custodian of the club’s biathlon rifles
• Represents the club on technical matters with Provincial and National Sport Organizations
• Coordinate range/facility bookings for all CWSC training sessions
• Communication with program participants or parents with regards to programs
• Reporting to CWSC board or director responsible for programs
• Develop event qualification procedures

Hours of Work
The nature of the coaching assignment requires flexibility in the hours of work. Generally, the work week will run from Saturday to Wednesday with days off on Thursday and Friday. Monday to Wednesday training sessions are scheduled in late afternoon and early evening. The Head Coach is expected to be available for coaching duties during race weekends. This includes official training days (usually Friday of race weekend) and race days (Saturday and Sunday). There is no training during the month of April and there are one week breaks in September and over Christmas. The Head Coach is expected to schedule vacation during these breaks.

Starting Date
The starting date is October 1, 2013. Winter training starts on November 2, 2013.

Scope of Position:

Roles and Responsibilities

3. Manage technical specialists (i.e. video analysts) working with the winter program
4. Build working partnerships with the winter sports to ensure common vision, goals and strategies to achieve excellence in targeted sports
5. Work effectively with Sport Canada, the COC,CPC, CSC/CSIs, IST staff and others to accomplish various tasks
6. Contribute to the establishment of annual business plans and be accountable for implementing these plans.
7. Work effectively with and under the direction of the CEO and with colleagues in other parts of the program, and specifically with the summer OTP program to ensure common approaches, policies and unified leadership for high-performance sport
8. Ensure staff reporting to the Director are fully integrated into sport science, medicine, research, technology, coaching and other OTP initiatives, and promote these opportunities to client groups
9. Formulate funding recommendations; lead the annual and other reviews of the winter sports (and assist with CSI and CSC reviews) to identify priorities that will produce podium results.
10. With others, develop new policies and programs that will assist achieving excellence at the Olympic and Paralympic Games
11. Promote excellence in Canadian sport and contribute to national communications strategies and programs to do so.
12. Undertake program evaluations during Games, training camps and competitions
13. Undertake intelligence gathering on international issues, trends, results etc.

Qualifications
• University Degree or College Diploma.
• Over ten years of experience working at a senior level in the Canadian high-performance sport system.
• Computer Skills and knowledge of the MS Office Suite is required
• Bilingualism is a preferred asset

ROLE
Executive Director (reports to President and Chairman of the Board)

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Strategy/High level planning
– Oversee the short and longer term planning of Fast and Female programming (events, web-based programming, target groups ¡V youth, coaches, parents, ambassadors).
– Interfaces with Fast and Female Founder and Board to map out a short-term and long term strategies.
–  Plans out strategic initiatives and ensures optimal alignment with the interests of all Fast and Female stakeholders (participants, sponsors, donors).
– Develops strategic relations with key NSOs for the development and execution of programming.

Governance
– Plan out annual calendar of meetings.
– Prepare board meeting agendas and compile minutes.
– Prepare board meeting documents (management review, financials).

Finances
– Develops and maintains annual organizational budget as well as event-based budgets.
– Tracks and monitors all income and expenses on a daily basis.
– Issue cheques for invoices due.

July 25, 2012 – The Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) invites applications for the position of Chef de Mission for the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi (Russia), March 7-16. This is a volunteer position with responsibilities commencing in October 2012, and continuing through May 2014.

The Paralympic Games are the second largest sporting event in the world, showcasing the talents and abilities of the world’s best elite athletes with a physical disability. The CPC is a not-for-profit, charitable, private corporation recognized by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) as the National Paralympic Committee of Canada. The mission of the CPC is to lead the development of a sustainable Paralympic sport system in Canada to enable athletes to reach the podium at the Paralympic Games.

The short-listing process, interviews and selection of the Chef de Mission will take place in September 2012 with the successful candidate expected to assume responsibilities effective October, 2012.

The Chef de Mission must be available full-time to attend the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games from approximately February 24th to March 18th, 2014. This position imparts a significant level of responsibility and will require a considerable commitment of time, energy and effort.

The successful candidate is expected to provide overall leadership to the 2014 Canadian Paralympic Team Mission, with key responsibilities including: attending a one week Chef de Mission Seminar in Sochi (likely February/March 2013), as well as other site visits as required; participating in regular conference calls and/or mission staff meetings; attending approximately 10-12 weekend meetings, national events, training sessions, selection trials, etc.; and, attending a four day mission staff Orientation Seminar in early Fall 2013. The CPC will cover the traveling expenses to meetings, seminars and the Games, as well as accommodation and meal costs incurred while fulfilling Chef responsibilities.

Qualifications:
– The ideal candidate must possess the following qualifications:
– Experience and/or involvement with national and international Games and events;
– Proven administrative and fiscal expertise, logistical ability, knowledge and appreciation of the unique – physical and mental demands which fall upon elite high performance athletes ;

March 28, 2012 (Ottawa, ON) – The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) is a national, private, not-for-profit organization committed to sport excellence. It is responsible for all aspects of Canada’s involvement in the Olympic Movement, including Canada’s participation in the Olympic and Pan American Games and a wide variety of programs that promote the Olympic Movement in Canada through cultural and educational means. The COC is looking to fill one part time contract with a Results Specialist. The contract duration is from April 2012 to February 2014.

General Purpose
The individual’s primary responsibilities will be to track Canadian athletes’ performances as well as other nations’ performances at World Championships, and other International events; produce various statistical analyses and provide such information to the Canadian Olympic Committee, Canadian Olympic Team, and its partners as required. The workload will vary from week to week. It is estimated that, averaged over the course of the contract, time spent per week will be approximately 0.5-1.0 day per week, along with time spent at seminars and onsite at the Olympic and Pan American Games. This position is not based out of any specific city or COC office, however being based in Ottawa is an asset.

Responsibilities
Pre-Games:
– Provide support with various statistical analyses as required in the lead-up to the Olympic Games.
– Assist with the compilation and centralization of the various results and analyses by sourcing information directly or through COC partners (Sport Canada and Own The Podium)
– Respond to information requests from the COC’s various departments, specifically the Communications department, specific to athletes and sports in the lead-up to the Olympic Games.
– Be available for training on the COC’s Zeus Database.
– Assist with the preparation of the Canadian schedule of participation for the Olympic Games for initial upload to Zeus.
– Attend the Team Operations Preparation Seminar (approx 3 months prior to Games)

At-Games:
– Track and manage all Canadian Olympic Team results, competition schedule and statistics.
– Ensure that Canadian Olympic Team schedule and results are current, requiring multiple daily updates and a final revised version at the end of each day.
– Provide information to the Canadian Olympic Team and partners as required.
– Liaise with Sport Services Officers, Press Chief and Assistant Press Chief in providing timely and relevant information for bulletins, daily results highlights, and media briefings.
– Create and pull reports from Zeus for Sport Services staff and Communications staff as required.
– Attend daily communications meetings.
– Contribute to the results sections of the mid and post-Games press briefing and/or final Games report developed by Sport Services

Own the Podium (OTP) is an innovative and collaborative initiative without precedent in Canadian sport. Scope of Position:
The position’s central mandate is to provide expertise, assistance and leadership to targeted Olympic and Paralympic summer sports in the ongoing implementation and assessment of an integrated sport science and medicine program. The individual will also assist in establishing service contracts between Canadian Sport Centres (CSC’s) and OTP, and National Sport Organizations (NSO’s) and CSC’s. In addition, the individual will assist with managing summer applied sport research projects. The position will report to the Director of Sport Science, Medicine and Innovation for Own the Podium, and will work collaboratively with the Director of Summer Sport, OTP High Performance Advisors , CSC’s, and technology and research specialists.

The ideal candidate will have extensive applied experience and success in sport science and sport medicine programming along with significant experience in leadership positions in Canadian or international sport systems. Roles and Responsibilities
1. Work in collaboration with OTP High Performance Advisors (HPA’s) to ensure that the targeted summer Olympic and Paralympic sports have an optimal integrated Sport Science/Sport Medicine (SS/SM) plan
2. Work in collaboration with Canadian Sport Centres to assist targeted NSO’s to receive quality services based on solid IST plans, and to establish service agreements between NSO’s and either OTP or CSCs.
3. Provide expertise and mentoring to targeted sports in the area of sport science, sports medicine, innovation, and the planning and periodization of training.
4. In collaboration with the OTP Director of SS/SM/I, contribute to the development of a national plan to enhance SS/SM and technology programming and services for targeted sports, which aligns with CSC initiatives.
5. Work with the OTP Director of SS/SM/I to promote the development, implementation and evaluation of a strong network of SS/SM professionals both within the CSC network and external to CSC’s.
6. Participate as a member in the National Sport Science Advisory Committee.

Qualifications
– University graduate degree in a sport science field with preference for a doctoral degree education.
– Over ten years experience with a proven record of success as a senior leader in the Canadian sport system and/or other successful international sport systems.
– Previous experience working at a multi-sport organization is an asset.
– Significant successful experience in the design and implementation of sport science/medicine services to high performance athletes in preparation for performance success at Olympic and Paralympic Games.
– Computer skills and knowledge of the MS Office Suite is required.
– Bilingualism is a preferred asset.

April 15, 2011 (Ottawa, ON) – Nakkertok Ski Club and the Nakkertok Racing Program has an opening for a full-time coach starting in the spring of 2011. This position is focused on developing our Midget and Juvenile skiers on their path towards excellence. and is one of the three core coaching positions for the Nakkertok Racing Program,

The lead Training to Train Coach will design and deliver an effective program in collaboration with a number of volunteer coaches and the lead coaches of the other programs. In this role the successful candidate will work towards creating an environment that is fun, keeps kids in skiing and puts them on a path towards being a competitive cross country skier. Candidates must have effective organizational and communication skills to coordinate a program of up to 70 skiers and 15 volunteer coaches.

The position is based in the Ottawa-Gatineau region and reports to the Racing Director and Racing Program Committee.

Term: Full-time. The hours of work will vary from week to week but an average of 38 hours per week is expected with travel in the winter months on weekends.

General Responsibilities:
The Nakkertok Racing Program uses a collaborative coaching model with professional and volunteer coaches working together as a team. Regular communication and collaboration with other coaching staff both professional and volunteer is expected.

– Develop an overall season plan with other coaches, identifying dates and locations of camps, key activities, coach development sessions, training sessions, trips and the competition calendar.
– Establish regular, timely and effective communications using web tools to athletes and parents.
– Organize and chair regular monthly volunteer coach meetings and development activities.
– Work with volunteer coaches to plan and deliver Stage 1, 2 and 3 practices. Develop and provide T2T volunteer coaches with practice plans for each training session 48 hours in advance of each session.
– For year round program athletes, meet annually to review the program and athlete goals; prepare (with support from the LTC / T2C coach and interested volunteer coaches) generic periodized training programs and monitor and communicate at least monthly with athletes maintaining an internet training log.
– Quebec provincial races, as established by the Racing Program Committee.

April 12, 2011 – The Coastal Nordic Ski Club (CNSC), a nonprofit organization located in southern Maine, is seeking a Head Coach for the Maine Coast Nordic (MCN) Ski Team. MCN currently has over 25 athletes representing several southern Maine towns and school systems. MCN has been training on a regular basis throughout last Summer, Fall & Winter under the previous MCN coach Jordi St.John.

The Maine Coast Nordic (MCN) Ski Team was formed in 2004 as a vehicle to support and encourage aspiring youth skiers in Southern Maine with year-round coaching and training opportunities supplemental to existing school programs. The position also includes oversight of our very successful Bill Koch Youth Ski League program from early January to mid-March. The BKYSL program had 90 skiers this past winter.

The MCN and Bill Koch programs in southern Maine have grown significantly over the last several years. This is a unique opportunity for a person with a strong Nordic skiing background to positively influence a wide range of highly motivated young athletes while also helping shape the program for the future.

March 10, 2011 (Canmore, AB) – Cross Country Canada, the National Sport Organization for cross-country skiing in Canada, is currently seeking a full-time employee to fill the position as Senior Team Coach for the National Ski Team (NST). This position is designed to be part of a dynamic high performance team that is totally committed to developing and sustaining our international excellence in cross-country skiing.

The position: The Senior Team Coach is a coaching position that will deliver comprehensive technical leadership and coaching for Canada’s athlete’s competing at the World Cup level. The successful candidate will have extensive coaching and technical qualifications supplemented by strong communication, motivational and presentation skills, and effective organizational skills. This position requires extensive traveling during the entire year to attend training camps and competitions.

The candidate must be able to adapt to coming into a four year quadrennial plan, the core of which will not change. While the next two years is not a time for major changes in the Canadian program, innovations brought forward by the candidate, which do not affect the core program requirements, will be encouraged and considered by the head coach and director high performance.

The position is based at the National Training Centre in Canmore, Alberta. All of the team athletes live and train year round at this location.

This position reports directly to the NST Head Coach.

Term: Full-time position

General Responsibilities (These include but are not limited to the following):
– Work with the Head Coach and other coaching staff to design, implement and monitor an annual training and competition plan for the National Ski Team senior teams;
– In coordination with the Integrated Support Team (IST), coordinate athlete support services including sport science, sport medicine, and technical support;
– Coaching and leading international and domestic competitive tours;
– Provide timely and effective communication to athletes and other coaches and members of the IST;
– Manage administrative tasks and accountability measures established to evaluate the program.

Required Qualifications:
– Experience coaching at the international level with the proven ability to deliver and integrate the key components of the program: technique, physiology, tactics, psychology and health;
– Must be dedicated to high performance excellence through creative and innovative approaches to delivering training programs;
– Proven ability to motivate and gain the trust and confidence of high performance athletes;
– Excellent interpersonal and organizational expertise;
– Ability to work as a team member and independent contributor;
– Proven skills in distance and sprint training.

February 03, 2011 (Barrie, ON) – The Southern Ontario Training Centre (SOTC) is seeking to hire a full-time Head Coach who possess the credentials, skills, drive, leadership qualities, and passion to develop, grow and lead a high performance cross country ski training centre in southern Ontario.

The successful candidate will work out of the SOTC office, hosted by the Hardwood Hills Nordic Development Centre (HHNDC) and Hardwood Ski & Bike, one of Ontario’s finest cross country ski facilities, located just outside the cities of Barrie and Orillia, Ontario.

General Responsibilities:
SOTC’s Head Coach will be accountable for leading the development, growth and delivery of a high performance program for southern Ontario athletes affiliated with SOTC, with the goal of preparing them for competitive success both within Canada and internationally.

In addition, the Head Coach will lead the growth and delivery of HHNDC’s existing developmental racing programs (a.k.a. Team Hardwood) with the assistance of other paid and volunteer coaches.

Specific Duties:
– Lead the development and implementation of a successful high performance program consistent with the mission and goals of SOTC;
– Recruit athletes and promote awareness of SOTC and its program within Ontario and the rest of Canada;
– Oversee the delivery of HHNDC’s developmental racing programs, with the assistance of additional paid and volunteer coaches;
– Assist the SOTC Board with fundraising initiatives & ensure the efficient administration of SOTC and HHNDC racing programs;
– Serve as a High Performance and Coaching Development resource for those Southern Ontario Division clubs who wish to use this resource.

Qualifications and Key Skills/Abilities:
– NCCP coaching certification in cross country skiing to at least Level III (old system), or international equivalent;
– Coaching and/or competitive experience in cross country skiing at the national and international level (preferred);
– Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver a successful training and racing program to athletes at the developmental level or higher;
– Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of athletes, coaches and parent volunteers, and to cultivate values of mutual respect and inclusion;
– Commitment to on-going professional development and training;
– Strong oral and written communication skills;
– Solid computing skills, including familiarity with standard business software, use of spreadsheets, and familiarity with use of social media

January 29, 2011 (Revelstoke, BC) – The Revelstoke Nordic Ski Club is looking for an individual(s) who will operate a stand alone cross country ski rental, ski instruction and small retail outlet out of the Club’s Day Lodge. This business opportunity would be solely owned by the proponent. The Club would not be involved in any aspect of this business operation. In return for use of the club facilities, the club is interested in receiving a percentage of gross revenues (to be negotiated) derived from the provision of these services.

In addition, the individual(s) will also be responsible for providing the custodial and ticket office duties associated with the operations of the Club facilities. In lieu of payment for these Club duties, the individual(s) would receive free rental accommodations in the Custodian’s Apartment on the top floor of the Day Lodge.
